La vie en rose
Bored this week-end? Why don't you watch a beautiful French movie with Marion Cotillard? She won all the awards for best actress in 2008: the Cesar, Golden Globe, British Award and the Oscar.
From the streets of the cutthroat Belleville district of Paris to the dazzling
limelight of New York's glamorous concert halls, Edith Piaf's life was a constant
battle to sing and survive, to live and love. Raised in abject poverty, surrounded by hookers and pimps, Edith's magical voice made her a star on both sides of the Atlantic. Her passionate romances and friendships with the greatest names of the period -- Yves Montand, Jean Cocteau, Charles Aznavour, Marlene Deitrich, boxing world champion Marcel Cerdan -- made her a household name as much as her memorable live performances and beautiful renditions of songs she made famous internationally, "La Vie en Rose", "Milord", "Hymn to Love", "Non, je ne regrette rien" and many more. But in her audacious attempt to tame her tragic destiny, the "Little Sparrow" -- as she was nicknamed -- flew so high that she could not fail to burn her wings.
The movie is available in Kuwait: http://www.q8megastore.com/default.aspx?param=la%20vie%20en%20rose&sel=1

Julien Doré Comme d'habitude
The new French sensation Julien Doré. Some describe him as a mixture between Kurt Cobain and Frank Sinatra. Winner of the reality show La Nouvelle Star, the French version of American Idol, he has a unique style of transforming classical hits in its own way (from punk to jazz). Don't miss his cover versions of Like a virgin, Baby one more time or Smells like teen spirit.
The song Comme d'habitude is a French classic and had many versions such as Frank Sinatra's My way or more recently performed in a very Arabic style by the trio Cheb Khaled, Faudel and Rashid Taha.

TV5 MONDE
TV5 started in January 1984, and was under the management of Serge Adda until November 2004; the new director, named on April 6, 2005 is Jean-Jacques Aillagon, former French Minister for Culture and Communication. The present Director-General is Marie-Christine Saragosse.
In 2006, TV5 underwent a major overhaul that saw the channel being re-branded as 'TV5MONDE' to stress its focus as a global network. Also part of the changes are a new schedule and new program line-up. Since 2001, 'TV5 Monde' is part of the channel's corporate name. Its Canadian operations are still branded "TV5", however.
TV5MONDE is the first most available global television network available around the world ahead of CNN and MTV.
TV5 Monde is available in most arabic countries including Kuwait and viewers can watch French films with Arabic subtitles. It's a good way to improve your listening skills, increase your vocabulary and know more about French culture.
